來了花旗 N 年有多, 生活習慣和思維方式已很美國化, 不過感情上, 卻仍大比數偏重於祖國。 今次四川地震災難, 再次牽動自己的中國心; 為受害者深感痛心, 為拯救者深感尊敬。 這種感覺是很直接和可比較的, 對於其它國家甚至是美國的大型天災, 自己也會關心, 但情度上卻遠遠不及。 不過我這顆中國心, 有點選擇性, 對基層人民的事特別在乎, 而對於大國尊嚴之類 (如CNN事件，奧運), 卻不是那麼關心。
打這個 blog 時, 勾起一件四年前的往事。 當年一次去上海公幹, 抽了一日, 一條友搭火車去杭州。 坐在一個四人卡位, 對面是一對中年夫婦。 他們十分熱情, 不斷和我交談, 天南地北什麼都講, 後來談到中國兒童的教育的問題, 連坐我旁邊, 一直默不作聲的女生也加入討論, 四條友好像在開國情會議。 我們談足個半小時直至火車到站, 我覺得是很好的交流, 自己亦擭益不淺。

as usual, western media focus on the faults and negative parts of the government of this quake. but i am surprised by the openness of mainland chinese media on the converage.

My heart goes to all the chinese people back home when I first heard of the earth quake news. I am particular sad about the loss of so many young lives. Hopefully, Chinese government would learn from this lesson, and put more control and effort into building code etc. We cannot prevent having natural disasters, but we should be
able to lower the degree of destructions.
And speaking of the incident of CNN, I do care. I am not a goon nor a thug, and certainly would not like to be called one. A professional commentator or jurnalist should at least get their facts or wording straight before they commented. When he made a mistake, of course he should be condemned, and he should put forth an apology.
I appreciated all the demonstrations around the globe in regarding to this incidents since it’s a good chance to show
the world that we care, though I have no comment on the degree of the aggressiveness.
